What is Occupational Traineeship?

Apprenticeships and traineeships are training that is specifically for students in employment. The programs are specifically to up-skill the staff or to engage new trainees, to build a pipeline of skilled workers in Australia.

EWEP helps international students to find training on-the-job, for industries across child care, aged care, hospitality, business, and more.

Apprenticeships and traineeships are:

  • Nationally accredited training
  • Undertaken by students who are already employed
  • Delivered by an RTO
  • Subsidised by the Victorian and/or Commonwealth Government where eligible

What kind of visa that a student should have?

Subclass 407 Training visa is a temporary visa that allows sponsored individuals to participate in workplace-based occupational training activities to improve skills related to occupation, area of tertiary study, or field of expertise, or to participate in a professional development training program in Australia.

There are 3 types of occupational training covered by this visa:

  1. Occupational training required for registration
  2. Occupational training to improve skills in an eligible occupation
  3. Occupational training for capacity building overseas


Occupational training to improve skills in an eligible occupation Workplace-based structured training programs that:

  • is specifically tailored and timed to the training needs of the nominated person
  • is in relation to an occupation specified on the list of eligible skilled occupations
  • involves a nominee who has recent and suitable prior experience. This can include employment experience or study experience that:
    • is the equivalent of at least 12 months of full-time experience in the occupation
    • has occurred in the 24 months immediately before the nomination is lodged
